Fixed Gear Bikes & Parts
Fixed gear bikes have always been most popular for track racing. They get their name from the way they are made. Fixed gear bikes lack the ability to coast. The bike's sprocket is screwed directly on to the hub and there is no freewheel mechanism. A reverse-thread locking ring is usually fitted onto the fixed gear bike to prevent the sprocket from unscrewing. Whenever the rear wheel is turning, the pedals of a fixed gear bike turn in the same direction. A rider can slow a fixed gear bike to a stop without the presence of brakes by resisting the rotation of the pedals. Fixed gear bikes can even be ridden in reverse.
